Lake Atitlan in Guatemala was recently nominated for one of the new 7 wonders of the world. It is the deepest lake in Central America and was formed when a huge volcanic eruption created a crater some 84,000 years ago, give or take a couple of days.
With its pristine waters and scenic panoramas I’d give it my vote. It is nestled between 3 volcanoes – Tulemon, Atitlan, and San Pedro, the latter of which I decided to conquer.
I don’t have much to say about this grueling, ass kicking, gain of 1500 or so meters hike, other than the views were spec-frikkin-tacular. In fact, when I reached the top, I simply had to jump for joy…
