Who needs snow when you have volcanoes?? Snowboarding is so yesterday. Nothing says adventure like bailing on volcanic ash. Here’s to climbing (yet another) ACTIVE volcano and getting down the fun way.
Cerro Negro in Leon is one of Nicaragua’s youngest active volcanoes. It erupts every 6-8 years, the last one being in 2002. So according to this, doing my math correctly, carry the one… that means we’re just about to die…
We reached the summit after about an hour (lugging one hella heavy board), walked along the rim (there is some rim job joke in here), donned the protective nerd gear and were good to go.
On the way down I tired to jump, which of course sent me head over tea kettle, Kamikaze style, barreling down the volcano. The angry volcano took bites out of my arms as I unceremoniously rolled down. When we reached the bottom there was silence, except for the fading sounds of the rest of the volcano pebbles following us down.
